A SEX fiend who abused two young girls in East Lancashire - 20 years apart - has been jailed for 14 years at Burnley Crown Court.

Kenneth Houston, of Sheridan Road, Laneshawbridge, was told by a judge that his conduct had had a serious effect on his victims, the court was told.

The 63-year-old had never been in custody before he was convicted of two offences of rape and nine offences of indecent assault involving two girls.

But jailing him Judge Beverley Lunt said: "The memories of what you did to them will haunt them forever."

The judge said that the defendant had been convicted on 'compelling evidence' in relation to the offences, which were said to have occurred between 1974 and 1979, and again with the second girl 20 years later.

Judge Lunt also blasted the defendant for suggesting that the girl in the second set of offences, where he was convicted of indecent assault, had made 'sexual advances' towards him.

"There is not one scintilla of remorse or contrition shown and when I pass sentence I can give you no credit."

Houston, of Sheridan Road, who had denied all of the allegations, must also sign the sex offenders register for life.
