A GANG of thieves used club hammers to smash through a brick wall of a electrical retail superstore and steal more than 90 smart phones.

The equipment was stolen from Currys/PC World on Water Street, Chorley, on the evening of Thursday, November 5 between 8.50pm and 9.25pm, when the rear wall was knocked through.

They escaped with phones valued at more than £25,000 and police have warned people to be aware of being offered a cheap handset.

A police spokeswoman said: “Three unknown offenders have made a hole in to the brick wall to gain entry.

“They have managed to get through in to the main shopping area through an internal door after using a club hammer to bang through an internal wall.

“They got in to the shopping area and managed to steal a a large number of mobile phones.”

The spokeswoman said no arrests had been made and police are examining CCTV to identify the culprits.

The phones are a mixture of Apple I phones 5 and 6s in grey, white, gold and silver, Microsoft Lumias 535 and 640 in black, Motorola V3s in black and green, Samsung galaxy mobiles ranging from the A3, A5, S5 Mini, S3, S6, in white, silver, blue, gold and black along with Sony Experia M4s in black, white and coral.

All the IMEI numbers have been recorded and the phones have been blocked.
