Francis Cawley, of The Cray, Milnrow, pleaded guilty to burglary at Ion Upholstery, Emerald Street, and theft of a set of car keys, unauthorised taking of a car, driving while disqualified and without insurance.
He was jailed for 26 weeks and ordered to pay £180 criminal court charge and £80 victim surcharge on release.
Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said CCTV footage showed Cawley get out of a pickup after it pulled up outside the factory unit. He went into the reception and then the office where he picked up the keys before leaving.

 

Man who broke into Rishton hairdressers so drunk he couldn’t remember incident

A 32-YEAR-OLD man who broke into a Rishton hairdressers was so drunk he couldn’t remember the incident.
Blackburn magistrates heard Graham Pearson stole hairdressing tools and cash from a Rishton hairdressers and was so drunk he couldn’t remember the incident.
Pearson, of Arnhem Road, Preston, pleaded guilty to burglary at Reflections and theft of cash and other property worth £940.
He was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail suspended for 18 months, with a 35-day rehabilitation requirement, and was ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work and pay £325 compensation and a £180 court charge.

Accrington woman admits shoplifting to finance her drug addiction

A 30-YEAR-OLD woman who admitted shoplifting to finance her drug addiction has been jailed for eight weeks.
Blackburn magistrates heard the latest offence involved Kerry Louise Murphy stealing sports socks worth £300 from Sports Direct and selling them minutes later to a market trader.
Murphy, of Spring Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to five charges of shoplifting and one of theft. As well as the custodial sentence she was ordered to pay £180 criminal court charge and £80 victim surcharge on her release.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the theft offence had involved Murphy sneaking behind the bar at the Railway pub in Accrington and stealing a mobile phone and purse belonging to a barmaid. The offence was caught on CCTV.
Gareth Price, defending, said his client was a clear example of the damage a drug addiction can do.
“All her offending is related to her drug abuse,” he said.

 

'GROSS ABUSE OF TRUST': Accrington man who tried to rape boy jailed for 12 years

A MAN from Accrington who took sexual advantage of two youngsters has been jailed for 12 years.
Darren Hollis, 40, tried to rape a teenage boy on at least two occasions, Burnley Crown Court was told.
Darren Hollis, 40, of Chestnut Grove, was convicted of two offences of attempted rape, and four charges of causing or inciting the same boy to engage in sexual activity. He was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl, when she was aged eight or nine.
Hollis, who was said to be an opportunist offender, was also ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register for life. A sexual harm prevention order, restricting his access to children, was also imposed.
The judge said: “It was a gross abuse of trust but I could not conclude that he had engineered the situation."
 

Thief jailed for 8 weeks after Burnley Mechanics break-in

A THIEF who broke into Burnley Mechanics and stole a portable stereo system worth £200 has been jailed for eight weeks. Ian Nuttall, 42, of Parkinson Street, Burnley, who admitted theft, was told by Pennine magistrates that custody was the only option, given his poor record for similar criminal offences and the fact he was already the subject of a suspended jail term.
