A PUBLIC consultation has been launched about the former Camelot Theme Park site, with its owners’ company promising a blank canvas.

At a series of public exhibitions next week, the public will be asked what they think should be included in the proposed development of the site.

Last year, Chorley Council voted to reject plans to build 420 homes at the site.

Story Homes, which owns the land, is undertaking a two-stage public consultation on the development of the brownfield site in Charnock Richard and wants to hear what people think the site should be used for. A planning application for new homes on the site was refused in August last year —— and Story Homes chose not to appeal this.

Instead, the company is starting from scratch with its plans and wants the local community to be involved from the outset.

A residents’ group opposed the plans last year.

Members claimed it would have meant 3,600 extra vehicle movements a day on quiet rural roads.

A public exhibition has been arranged to allow residents to speak with members of the development team and contribute ideas and suggestions on what the plans should include.

John Jackson, head of land and planning at Story Homes, said: “We believe that the best way to deliver a sensible solution to the development of this site is to work closely with the local community.

“We want to work with residents, councillors, stakeholders and other interested parties in developing a revised scheme.

“The site has been vacant since Camelot closed its doors in 2012 and, sadly, the state of the site has declined, due to substantial vandalism, even further in the year since the previous application was refused.”
