MOTORISTS in Blackburn and Darwen might curse leisurely Sunday drivers – but there’s little you can do when there’s several tonnes of steam power chugging along Bolton Road.

And besides, hundreds of residents were cheered by the sight of half a dozen vintage engines trundling from Darwen’s Watery Lane to Blackburn Town Hall on ‘Steam Sunday’.

North Shropshire enthusiast Mr Allison, with his 1927 Aveling and Porter steam tractor, was probably the furthest flung participant in a steam event devised by Ian Hewitt, of Heritage Painting, and backed by Blackburn BID.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Borough council bosses helped him settle in Darwen after several years on the road.

Brian Wainwright, of Mellor Brook, who has only just acquired his 1925 road roller, said: “This was the first chance I’ve had to take it into Blackburn. I’ve done it with a miniature engine before but nothing like this.”
