A NEW multi-academy trust could be set up by two East Lancashire schools.

Bowland High School in Grindleton and Witton Park Academy are looking into creating the new organisation with the ability to become an academy sponsor for other schools.

A consultation period has been launched by the governors of Bowland High Academy Trust and Witton Park Academy Trust which will conclude on Tuesday, October 20.

Both trusts are appealing for parents from both schools to submit their views on the proposal.

An information evening will also be staged at Bowland High on Monday, October 12, from 5.30pm.

A spokesman for the trusts said: "We believe together we will be stronger and more able to support each other in improving the achievements of our pupils.

"The opportunities for staff to work with colleagues in each other’s schools will help to improve the quality of teaching further and the range of opportunities available to pupils.

"Both governing bodies agree that forming a multi-academy trust will provide greater long term independence and security for both schools."
