A CANCER sufferer is organising a charity event to say thank you to the medical staff who helped him beat the disease.

Adam Barrett was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in September 2004, just weeks after starting his first job after university.

After undergoing two years of intensive treatment at The Christie Hospital, Manchester, the 23-year-old from Colne is now in remission.

And to celebrate Adam, with his friend Jonny Collison, is staging a fundraising event tonigh at Fusion nightclub, Hammerton Street, Burnley, in aid of Christie's.

Adam said: "I was obviously shocked at first when the worst was confirmed.

"But it was the friendly hospital staff, and luxuries such as internet access, table football and pool tables that made my hospital stays bearable.

"If I'm honest even the food was pretty good too.

"Christie's really made me feel comfortable and tried their best to make it entertaining to be there."

The event is billed as Rave for Life' and is a night of house and techno dance music. Owners of Fusion, Kev Riley and Craig Whittaker have allowed Adam to use the venue for free.

Headlining the event will be DJs Iain Taylor, former resident DJ at Sankeys nightclub, Manchester, Miguel Manzano, current resident DJ at Sankeys and Matt Cooper, resident DJ for Dirty Disco, Leeds.

There will also be a large number of local DJs taking part in the event throughout the night, all free of charge.

Adam and Jonny have also arranged a minibus to bring patients from The Christie Hospital. Money raised will be donated to the charity to invest in research and treatment for their patients. If successful similar nights could be held in the future.

Jonny, 23, added: "I can't remember the last time anyone organised a big charity bash in Burnley. If we can get hundreds of people down, we can raise thousands of pounds for Christie's, and have a brilliant night at the same time."

Tickets cost £8 and are available on the door, from The Big Window, Manchester Road, and Red Room, Ormerod Street, both Burnley.
