A DRUNKEN man making his way home late at night banged on the side of a passing police van.
And Blackburn magistrates heard that his actions amounted to an invitation the police were quick to accept.
Ashley Nathan Cort, 24, of Cherry Street, Blackburn, admitted being drunk and disorderly, and possession of cannabis. He was fined £100 with £50 costs.
Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said Cort became aggressive towards the officers when they stopped to speak to him.
"When asked why he had hit the van, he said he did it because he was drunk," said Mr Harrison.
Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Cort's mother had died recently and this had led to division in the family.
"Alcohol and cannabis should not be the recourse of people who are grieving, but there may be other agencies who can help my client," said Mr Church-Taylor.
