A MAN who is suffering from asbestos related cancer has launched a legal battle for compensation of up to £200,000.

Lesley Ford, 73, has developed the disease malignant mesothelioma, a cancer of the tissues surrounding his lungs or abdomen, according to a writ issued in London's High Court and just made publicly available.

Now Mr Ford, of Lyndhurst Avenue, Blackburn, is claiming damages from RWE Npower plc, whom he blames for his disease.

He was exposed to deadly asbestos dust and fibres when he worked as an electrician's mate and rigger for the company between 1965 and 1986, the writ says.

He worked at Whitebirk Power Station in Blackburn, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Warrington, Westwood Power Station in Wigan, and Huncoat Power Station.

It claims Mr Ford first developed chest pain and breathlessness and in May 2006, and in September his condition of mesothelioma was diagnosed.
