NOT one for the easily offended: An evening of erotic, gender-bending, sexually charged comedy hits the stage of Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre with a major new production of Marivaux's The Triumph of Love.
Newly translated and adapted by Braham Murray and Katherine Sand, this dazzling dance of a play tells a complex tale of lovesick princess Leonida, who must find a way to win fallen Prince Agis - despite her family having killed his parents to ascend the throne.
An 18th century equivalent of a Joe Orton comedy, the action twists and turns through a dizzying entanglement of cross-dressing disguises and mistaken identities.
The cast includes Brigit Forsyth, who has previously been seen at the theatre in The Importance of Being Earnest and Little Murders and whose TV credits include The Likely Lads, Emmerdale and Heartbeat.
Rae Hendrie, whose TV credits include Monarch of the Glen; and Terence Wilton, seen previously at the Royal Exchange in King Lear.
The Triumph of Love, Royal Exchange, Manchester, running now until Saturday, May 19.
