BAE Systems in Samlesbury has handed over the first rear section of a hi-tech aircraft to American firm Lockheed Martin.
The short take off and vertical landing variation of the F-35 Lightning II has been described as vital for defence by its customers.
BAE Systems played host yesterday to American bosses from Lockheed Martin and dignitaries from across the North West.
And the first "aft fuselage" to officially come off the production line was unveiled at the ceremony.
