Burnley voters are urged to make sure they are properly registered ahead of the local elections in May.

With less than six weeks to the borough elections, Burnley Council has asked all residents to make sure they do have the means to vote on election day, either in person or through a proxy or postal vote.

Anyone who is on the 2007 Register of Electors will soon receive a voting card.

There are a number of changes to polling stations this year and voters are advised to check this card to ensure they go to the correct place to vote.

Application forms to register to vote are available from the town hall, Manchester Road, Burnley, or can be downloaded from www.burnley.gov.uk.

Applications to vote by post must be submitted before 5pm on April 18 and proxy applications before 5pm on April 25.

Forms are available from the elections office at Burnley Town Hall.

Potential candidates for the election are asked to register before April 4.

Nomination papers are available from the town hall. Call 01282 477261 for further information
