A TEENAGER was punched in the face in an unprovoked attack in Darwen town centre.

The 19-year-old was walking along Bolton Road when a blue Transit van pulled up at about 6.15pm on Monday.

A man got out and punched him in the face before he ran back to his van and sped off.

The victim told police he did not know why he had been assaulted.

Insp Ian Geogarty of Darwen CID said: "The aggrieved suffered minor injuries which were a bruise to his face."

He described the attacker as in his early 20s, white, clean-shaven, with scruffy blonde hair and about 6ft tall.

He wore blue jeans with a white and blue tracksuit top.

Police are appealing for witnesses and ask anyone with information to call 01254 353830.
