A FLASHING interactive speed sign has been installed on Pole Lane, Darwen, often used as a short-cut to the motorway.

The sign tells drivers their speed and tells them to slow down if it is too high.

Coun Frank Connor, who has been working to improve safety on the road, said he had recently spent an hour on the road and saw one driver doing over 50mph and 13 driving at over 40mph.

He said: "The interesting thing is all of them braked. I am very pleased we got the sign and it was recognised we have a problem."

Coun Connor is working to ensure a similar interactive speed sign will be installed on Marsh House Lane and speed cameras installed on both roads.
