A BANNED football hooligan was arrested while trying to travel to Andorra to watch England play.

David Grimshaw has now been handed an additional 30-month sentence stopping him from watching any games anywhere in the world.

The 38 year old, of Oswald Street, Accrington, was nearing the end of a three-year ban from watching domestic English league matches or travelling abroad to games.

He was stopped at Liverpool John Lennon Airport trying to catch a flight to Barcelona before last night's key Euro 2008 qualifying match.

Grimshaw, the subject of a previous football banning order, appeared before Liverpool magistrates and agreed to the new 30-month banning order.

He will not be able to attend any matches in the UK or abroad. He will also have to surrender his passport and sign in at a police station at specific times.

The soccer lout was serving a ban from football matches for three years following incidents after the Burnley v Derby County match in 2004.

The father of two was seen by officers chasing a man in Burnley town centre 15 minutes after the final whistle at Turf Moor.

Grimshaw, who was hurling threats and abusive insults at the man, smelled of drink, was unsteady on his feet and was incoherent.

He said that he was not even at the match but just happened to be near the match on that day. His solicitor at the time, Dylan Bradshaw, said Grimshaw was a Leeds United fan and had no interest in Burnley or Derby County and it was coincidence the teams were playing.

Grimshaw has a history of violence linked to sporting events.

The court in Liverpool heard that Grimshaw has several public order convictions related to football.
