PLANS for a £100million business park have moved a step forward after councillors voted through proposals addressing resident's traffic congestion concerns.

BAE's plans for its Samlesbury site include the provision of additional industrial and office working space, along with a restaurant and creche facility.

The transformation of the site will create 2,500 jobs over the next 10 years.

But residents of Mellor and Balderstone objected to the plans, arguing that the increase in workers would lead to traffic chaos on accident black spot roads.

Earlier this month Ribble Valley Council deferred making a decision on the plans to get more information on BAE's travel plans.

South Ribble Council - who also have jurisdiction for approving the plans - last night approved the proposals after the additional information was provided.

BAE has promised to carry out improvement work at the Swallow Hotel junction with Branch Road that will include traffic signals and a filter lane.

The company will also fund measures to reduce Branch Road from a 40mph limit to a 30mph one.

The plans will now go back before Ribble Valley Council for approval.
