THE best of Hyndburn’s horticultural offering will be shown off at the world famous RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, it has been announced.

Green-fingered enthusiasts from across the borough have just received confirmation they will be given space to show off their skills from Wednesday, July 22 until Sunday, July 26.

Cath Holmes, who is the chairwoman of the Hyndburn Federation of Allotments (HFA), shared a picture of a letter sent to her by the Royal Horticultural Society online.

It said: “Thank you for your application to exhibit. I am delighted to confirm that you have been allocated a 10m x 15m Great British Allotment.”

Cath, who is also the chair of Incredible Edibles Accrington and is involved with several other groups in the borough, said: “Our theme is going to be ‘Allotmentality’.

“It’s about promoting the other aspects of gardening, which is it’s good for your mental health and general health and well-being.

“Everything will be edible, such as the flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruit.

“It’s a display with a shed and a green house. We are also hoping for a poly tunnel, and we will have a bit of a patio area and raised beds.”

Several groups are set to be involved with preparing and taking part in the exhibit, including Baxenden Allotments, Church Prospects, Clayton-le-Moors Prospects, Incredible Edibles Accrington, NVS Lancs DA, and Sandy Lane Gardening Group.

They are being supported by the council’s parks department and Hyndburn Green Spaces Forum.

The groups were part of a team that was awarded the Best Show feature at the same show two years ago on what was their debut appearance at the Cheshire show.

They were also highly commended, as they were last year, and will be hoping for further success this year.

Parks and open spaces boss at Hyndburn Council, Cllr Ken Moss, said: “It’s great they are exhibiting something.

“They are very enthusiastic and they plan quite literally years in advance, so I know a lot of work has gone into this already.”

The group has been planning since last year.
