GARDENERS and horticulturalists from across the country descended on Bacup Leisure Hall on Saturday for the Alpine Garden Society's national show.

The event attracted exhibitors, judges and nurserymen from as far afield as Northumberland, Middlesex, Kent and Wales The East Lancashire group members provided the setting for an array of rare and beautiful mountain gems among a total exhibit of over 500 plants staged by almost 70 exhibitors.

The East Lancashire group, which is based at Ramsbottom Civic Hall, gained at least five new members at the event and will continue to actively welcome newcomers to the world of gardening.

It is hoped that the show will become a regular spring feature and plans are already under way to stage a similar event in April 2008.

The exact date and full details of the event will soon be available from the show secretary, Carol Kellett on 01257 273382.

Gardeners interested in joining the East Lancashire Group of the Alpine Garden Society are requested to telephone group secretary, Cliff Booker on 01706 356385.
