BURGLARS who entered a Blackburn man's house at night removed car keys from the pocket of his jeans that were on his bed as he slept.

Blackburn magistrates heard that the intruders stole credit cards and cash from the man's wallet before making off with his Mercedes Compressor.

The car was eventually involved in an accident on the Grane Road which resulted in an elderly couple's car sliding down the road before coming to rest on a wall.

Liam Holt, 20, of Wensley Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to allowing himself to be carried in a car taken without consent. He was made subject to a 7pm to 7am curfew order for two months and banned from driving for 12 months.

Neil White, prosecuting, said the victim of the burglary, Graham Harris, had gone to bed at his home in Moorfield Avenue at about 3.30am on Saturday.

In the morning he realised his wallet, mobile phone and car keys had been removed from his jeans and his bedside cabinet had been searched.

Michael Blacklidge, defending, said it was not suggested that Holt had anything to do with the burglary or the theft of the car.

"He foolishly got involved and telephoned family and friends to tell them what he was doing and who he was with," said Mr Blacklidge.
