AN AWARD winning East Lancashire woman has been re-appointed to Greater Manchester Police board.

Gloria Oates OBE, who lives in Ramsbottom, has been reappointed to the Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA), the governing body for Greater Manchester Police, for a second term The former Chief Executive of Oldham and Rochdale's NHS Trusts welcomed the chance to contibute towards the authority's success.

As an independent member of the board authority she will attend police authority and commitee meetings, keep up-to-date with local and national policing developments and maintain close contact and dialogue with their local communities.

In 1996 she was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Lancashire and in 2000, she received an OBE in the New Year's Honours for her services to Healthcare.

In 2001 the University of Central Lancashire awarded her an Honorary Doctorate and in 2002 she was named Woman of Lancashire.

Derek Osbaldestin, chairman of the Greater Manchester Police Authority, said: "Over the past four years Gloria has made a significant contribution to the work of the authority. She is a valued and committed members of the team and we are very pleased to reappoint her so she can continue to help make a difference for the people of Greater Manchester that we serve."
