THREE health care teams are vying to be named the best in East Lancashire after being nominated by grateful patients.
Dr Malcolm Littley's diabetic team at Burnley, the urology team for East Lancashire and consultant surgeon John Tresadern's Breast Cancer Care Team at Blackburn have been shortlisted for The People's Award at the first East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust's Excellence Awards.
The People's Choice Award is the only one to be voted on solely by the public.
Another 15 awards are up for grabs at the March 21 ceremony, which is taking place at the Macdonald Dukenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors.
Three people or teams have been shortlisted for 13 of the awards but the winners of three, the Chair's Unsung Hero of the Year Award, the Outstanding Achievement Award and the Chief Executive's Achievement Award, will only be revealed on the night.
Jo Cubbon, chief executive of the trust, said: "These awards recognise the outstanding efforts of special teams and individuals who work above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference to patients at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
"This is an opportunity to highlight some of the excellent work going on across the hospitals and share this good practice across the trust and beyond."

>> Nurse or Midwife of the Year
Hilary Wallbank: Hilary has worked for the trust, based in Blackburn, but also latterly across Burnley for 20 years. She is the Matron for Surgery.
Barbara Lubomski: Barbara has worked as Respiratory Nurse Manager, based at Burnley General for nine years. She leads a highly qualified team of nurses providing quality respiratory services.
Sheila Clarkson: Sheila has provided a lifetime of service to the NHS and was the first DSN in Blackburn. She provided the leadership to steer the development of diabetes services from 1998 to the present day. She has also contributed to the development of diabetes services nationally.

Drs Pilomon Raja and Khalill Peeroo: These two doctors, who are still training, were jointly nominated for the period of their training they spent at Pendle Community Hospital with rehabilitation patients.
Dr Ian Stanley: Ian has worked in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care at the trust in Blackburn for five years. He is heavily involved in training junior doctors and is chair of the trust's Patient Safety Group.
Dr Win Myint: Win is a junior doctor in Women's Health Services and is one of the most diligent and conscientious professionals with a wonderful bedside manner.

Barbara Moran: Barbara has worked in occupational therapy at the trust for six and a half years. Barbara's role is to ensure that her patients are assessed in Accident and Emergency focusing on patients' needs.
Elaine Butterworth: Elaine has worked for the trust, based in Blackburn, for the past 11 years heading up the occupational therapy team. She has embraced change and led her team to transform her service to patients.
Ian McAuslane: Ian works as a biomedical scientist based in the Blood Sciences Department at Blackburn. For a period of time leading up to the transfer of hospital services into the new building in Blackburn, he was instrumental in project managing the transition of services.
>> Healthcare Assistant of the Year
Ruth Browne: Ruth has worked in Blackburn for the past 25 years in a number of roles, but all within ophthalmology. Latterly, Ruth provides one to one eye testing for patients as an Auxiliary Nurse.
Anthony Walsh: Anthony has been a health care assistant within the Emergency Care Department at Blackburn for 10 years. He carries out general nursing duties for patient with minor injuries.
Susan Lloyd: Susan is a Nursing Auxiliary in outpatients and has worked in the dermatology department at Blackburn for 12 years. She is an impressive team player and is full of initiative and enthusiasm.
>> Clinical Support Person of the Year
Larissa Doswell: Larissa has worked in the Audiology Department at Blackburn for the past 12 years. She carries out hearing aid testing and training students.
Christine Dickinson: Christine has worked as a Medical Support technician in cardiology for the past 13 years at Blackburn. She has developed a one-stop' clinic.
Christine Boothman: Christine is the administrative backbone of the Paediatric Audiology Department, based at St Peters Centre, Burnley. Christine has worked at the trust in Burnley for nine years.
>> Non-Clinical Support Person of the Year
Ismail Hafejee: Ismail has worked at the hospital in Blackburn for approximately 10 years as the equipment co-ordinator for Blackburn. This means that he provides medical equipment for theatres and other surgical areas.
Mandy Manning: Mandy is the Domestic Supervisor at Rossendale General Hospital. She regularly demonstrates her initiative and works within existing resources. Her actions have a positive impact on productivity.
Junaid Mistry: Junaid has been a Domestic Assistant in Blackburn for four years providing a valuable service in supporting staff in providing a clean environment in which services can be delivered.
