DINERS at a Blackburn cafe helped raise enough money to buy 16 toys for a local charity in one month.

Richmonds Brasserie, Richmond Terrace, Blackburn, took part in the Table Card campaign and the toys will be donated to Blackburn with Darwen Women's Aid Group.

During the campaign Christmas cards were left on tables asking diners to make a charity donation instead of leaving a tip.

Serena Edward, co-owner of the Richmonds, said: "We were delighted that we could do something positive to help the local community.

"The Table Card campaign went down really well with our customers, who were enthusiastic about that appeal.

"We are looking to have the cards back on the tables later in the year."

The fundraiser was part of a ongoing initiative run by the Community and Business Partners, formerly the Blackburn Partnership, who raise money to distribute gifts local charities including the Salvation Army.

Wendy Hobson, of Community and Business Partners, said: "The campaign was a great success at Richmonds and the money raised will put smiles on 16 children's faces. We were impressed by the generosity of their customers."
