The jury at Preston Crown Court was ordered to find Wilkinson, of Sowclough Road, Bacup, guilty on the instruction of the judge.

The trial into the involvement of a second defendant, Simon Massey, 50, of Avondale Road, Nelson, is continuing. He is also accused of violent disorder during the fight following the Burnley vs Sheffield Wednesday match, in January 2014.

Massey denies the allegation against him.

Part of his police interview was read to the court by prosecutor Joseph Allman.

He said: “I am walking in. There are a few people around. You can see all this disturbance on the right hand side.

“I said ‘what is going on? I am too old for all this trouble’. I am in there ten seconds if that. I thought, ‘forget this one’.”
