A YELLOW weather warning for ice is in place for East Lancashire today.
The Met Office has said residents should be aware of slippery surfaces while out and about.
Outbreaks of rain were due to clear to scattered showers by yesterday evening with temperatures then falling, quickly allowing icy stretches to develop quickly on untreated surfaces, especially where sheltered from the westerly winds.
Showers were set to become increasingly wintry overnight, some heavy, adding to the ice risk.
A spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the risk of icy stretches on roads and pavements.”
