Mr Eastwood, former Eastern Divisional police commander and the Conservative Party candidate for Blackburn in this year’s general election, said: “I am shocked and saddened at this closure.

“If I am elected as MP for Blackburn I will work tirelessly for the people in the town. “One of my top priorities is to help restore the night and evening economy .

“I am a true Blackburnian, born and bred, and my vision is that the town centre will once again be home to thriving nightclubs, pubs and restaurants.

“I remember vividly, queuing at Toffs, Romeo and Juliet’s, Peppermint Place, Zanzibar and Brewers Arms and eating at the many town centre restaurants and take-aways.

“It’s unforgivable that the powers that be have allowed this to happen and are happy to sit back whilst a generation of young people miss out.”

The closure of Liquid and Envy, one of Blackburn’s last nightclubs was described as a ‘major blow’ fy Blackburn businesswoman Margo Grimshaw.

A spokeswoman for Liquid and Envy’s owners the Luminar Group blamed “challenging trading conditions and reduced footfall in Blackburn” as the reasons behind the closure.
