Malik, of Ambleside Close, Blackburn, admitted making a false statement to obtain jobseeker’s allowance, income support and employment support allowance. She was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Malik had been interviewed during the course of the claim and had the opportunity to declare she was a student.
“She admitted to investigators that she understood the rules and that she needed to report a change of circumstances,” said Miss Allan.
Scott Parker, defending, said Malik had become a public services student after the claim was established.
“This conviction will have a serious impact on her employability in that field,” said Mr Parker. “I don’t believe you will see this lady before the court again, she has learned a salutory lesson.”
