A MAJOR East Lancashire road was blocked after a collision involving two cars.

The emergency services were called to the A677 near the KFC restaurant, in Samlesbury, shortly after 9pm on Monday.

One male driver was treated at the scene in Preston New Road for minor injuries and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for a check up.

The incident involved a silver BMW and a blue Renault Clio.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Traffic was slowed in the area while the cars were recovered and queues backed up on both sides of the road.

A witness said that one of the vehicles had ended up in a ditch that ran alongside the road.

It is believed that the cars were travelling towards Blackburn.

Staff at the nearby KFC took ice to the drivers while they were waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

A crowd of onlookers gathered at the side of the road after the collision to watch the emergency services deal with the situation and the drivers.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to the scene shortly after 9pm. Officers blocked the road and recovery crews came to take away the cars.

“The road was reopened once the cars had been taken away.

“The male driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital while the other driver was unharmed.

“It’s not clear at this stage what caused the collision and we believe that no other cars was involved.”

A North West Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called to the scene shortly after 9.20pm and arrived on scene at 9.38pm.

“One ambulance attended and treated a patient before taking them to hospital. The patient complained of an injury to their head and also a sore chest and ribs.”
