BOSSES at charity Age UK have urged people across East Lancashire to prepare for winter.

With the end of British Summer Time and the dark nights drawing in, homeowners have been urged to use the final few weeks of fair weather to check that the exteriors and interiors of their home are ‘winter-proof’, make a check-list of DIY jobs and if necessary book a tradesperson to tackle the more complicated tasks.

People have been urged to check roof tiles, guttering, the boiler, insulation and garden furniture, as well as checking the small print on insurance cover.

Lesley Davis, of Age UK Burnley, said: “Preparation is key to protecting your home and avoiding expensive callouts when the weather changes. There are essential checks homeowners could be doing to the exteriors and interiors of their homes whilst the fair weather remains.

“Additionally, digging out your insurance policy terms and conditions and checking you are covered could help avoid any unexpected costs.”
