LANCASHIRE’S Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Ibrahim Master is facing an investigation about alleged misconduct.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is deciding whether to take further action.

Blackburn’s Mr Master denies doing anything wrong.

The original complaint was made by Lancashire Police Chief Constable Steve Finnigan and follows a domestic incident in Blackburn.

A decision by the IPCC on whether to launch a full investigation is expected next week.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Chief Constable has referred a complaint over the conduct of DPCC Ibrahim Master in relation to an on-going police investigation to the Police and Crime Panel and that the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been notified.

“A 49 year old man from Blackburn was arrested in August following a report of a domestic incident at an address. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“During the course of the investigation two other men, aged 56 and 58, from Blackburn voluntarily attended a police station and were spoken to about alleged harassment.

“They have not been arrested and inquiries are continuing into this aspect of the investigation.”

An IPCC spokesman said: “We have received a referral that refers to the conduct of Ibrahim Master. We are conducting an assessment to determine whether the matter is something that requires an investigation.”

Mr Master, 56, said: “The complaint to the IPCC contains a number of inaccuracies and inconsistencies.

“I was surprised and extremely disappointed the Constabulary decided to report a matter to the Police and Crime Panel on the basis of what appears to be limited hearsay evidence.

“I haven’t done anything wrong whatsoever and I strongly deny any misconduct.

“I welcome an open, transparent and impartial investigation by the IPCC ”.

PCP Tory member Peter Gibson said: “I am very concerned.”
