Man hurt in serious Rossendale two-car smash

AN ELDERLY man suffered a suspected fractured hip in a serious crash this morning in Lumb.

Burnley Road East is currently closed to allow accident investigators to work out how the crash between the silver Suzuki Vitara, which was flipped onto its side, and the blue Ford Fiesta happened.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

After being checked over at the hospital, the elderly man was found not to have broken any bones and was at home recovering this afternoon.

Insp John Fryer said: “The road will be closed for some time while the accident investigation team attends due to the potential serious injury.”
