BLACKBURN College-educated Euro-MP Louise Bours has written to North West councils urging them not to follow Bury’s example and move to three weekly general waste bin collection.

Last week the Greater Manchester authority’s proposal to change the cycle, affecting Ramsbottom and Summerseat, was criticised by East Lancashire MPs of all parties.

Now UKIP MEP Ms Bours has joined the chorus of condemnation.

Rossendale, Burnley, Pendle, Chorley, and Hyndburn councils operate a fortnightly cycle alternating general rubbish and recyclable bin collections. Blackburn with Darwen and Ribble Valley collect general waste weekly and reyclables fortnightly.

Ms Bours said: “I am disgusted that one council has seen fit to put money before the health of their residents.”
