Blackburn council continues crackdown on dog fouling

Lancashire Telegraph: Coun Jim Smith Coun Jim Smith

A DOG chipping and dog fouling awareness event at Mill Hill Community Centre, resulted in 24 dogs being micro-chipped.

Several residents also showed interest in attending a dog solution course.

The event came as Blackburn with Darwen Council carries out a new drive aimed at tackling dog fouling.

Thousands of homes will be leafleted as part of a pilot scheme, mainly focusing on two areas of the borough, Mill Hill in Blackburn and Marsh House in Darwen.

Since 2012, the council has given out 19 fixed penalty notices to dog owners, with fines totalling £1,050.

Coun Jim Smith, executive member for environment, said: “Dog fouling is disgusting and anti-social, totally at odds with the majority of residents who want to see their area clean, as the hundreds of volunteers who have taken part in Your Call clean ups show.

“We need residents to be our eyes and ears. We will name and shame those who continue to let their dog foul our streets.”

I think its all good and well to slate dog owners for foul but its not hair on the small minority that do do the decent thing of picking up the foul (as we should). My argument is, where are the bins for us to put the foul in?! Its ridiculous that we are expected to pick it up and carry it all the way home!

I think changes need to be made and bins needs to be provided as it isn’t hygienic to keep hold of it!

Are you serious???
If you choose to keep a pet why on earth should somebody else foot the bill for you to have bins to put your dogs droppings in???
Take the droppings home in a little sack and put them in your own bin,
If it's not hygienic don't buy a dog!
unbelievable!!
