European cultures merge at Darwen academy
2:10pm Wednesday 9th April 2014 in News
DARWEN Aldridge Community Academy hosted an EU-funded Comenius project involving 50 students and 20 teachers from schools in six different countries.
The English, Norwegian, Italians, Turkish, French and German parties took part in a variety of activities during the event to promote cultural awareness.
All of the parties were in the academy for students’ special assemblies giving presentations about successful people from their own countries and identifying the positive universal values that those people represented.
Head of modern languages at the academy Laurent Charruau, who secured the 24,000-Euro funding for the project, said: “The funding has enabled us to give fantastic opportunities for our students to meet young people from other countries. We have already visited Italy this year and will visit the other countries over the next two years.
“This is all part of the Academy’s bid to be recognised with International School Status.”
