A RIBBLE Valley vicar has returned to work after undergoing a quadruple heart bypass.

The Rev George Darby, 65, priest in charge at St Andrew’s in Slaidburn, resumed his full-time duties on Sunday after more than four months off.

He made an appointment at Royal Blackburn Hospital at the start of November after feeling ill on holiday in France with his wife Pauline.

The dad-of-two, who has been in charge at Slaidburn for just over two years, was taken for scans, and was told he required a quadruple heart bypass, in Blackpool.

After 27 days in hospital, Mr Darby was allowed home, but was told to have some time off before returning to work.

He said: “It was tough doing two Sunday services, but I managed. I’m taking it slowly and I’m gradually easing myself back into the swing of it.”
