TWO years ago, Jay Lynchehaun was given the devastating news that he had a terminal brain tumour.
But after defying medical predictions that he would die within six months, he will tomorrow celebrate raising £20,000 for research into his condition.
The cash has been raised through dozens of social events organised by his In Between Ears charity, which will mark its first anniversary tomorrow with a party.
Jay, 27, of George Lane, Read, has amazed doctors with his attitude and progress since being diagnosed with one of the most malignant types of cancer in October 2011.
The treatment which followed meant he was forced to give up his job as a mechanic in Nelson, which left a huge void in his life. He said: “I just knew I needed to do something with my time, so decided to set up the charity to try and help others in the same position. So it was for my benefit as much as anyone else”
Jay has started work as a part-time graphic designer in Clitheroe, but his condition remains terminal.
He said: “The doctors have been amazed and I go to get scanned every two months.
“It’s just something I’ve got to do and I’m not sure you can ever deal with it.”
Family friend and committee member, Debbie Johnson, said: “We’ve raised about £20,000 which is amazing. We’ve forged a really good link with the research department at UCLan and they are doing brilliant work coming up with new developments.”
The charity has also donated cash to a handful of brain tumour sufferers to help pay for a day out.
The party, including an auction, raffle and band, will be in Jack’s Lounge at Ewood Park, Blackburn, at 7pm tomorrow. Everyone is welcome and entry is by donation.
