BLACKBURN with Darwen Council bosses signed a letter to North West MPs urging them to press the Government over its links with the alcohol industry North West charity Drink Wise has written the letter following an investigation by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) into the influence the industry has had over the Government’s alcohol strategy.

The BMJ published details of 130 meetings between industry representatives and the Government’s health department in the run-up to a decision last July to drop plans for minimum unit pricing.

The letter says the industry has ‘completely undermined what was once a broadly positive government alcohol strategy’ and calls for an investigation into the close relationship between the Government and the industry.

The council passed a motion at the end of 2013 urging government to introduce minimum unit pricing.

woolywords says...

You have to laugh at the absurdity of some newspaper articles, you really do.
We are told that Drink Wise, a minority charity group, seeks to change the mindset of a Gov't, (who itself is a minority and had to form a coalition to gain power,) into not accepting pressure from another minority group, the brewing industry, after not following the report of the BMJ, to increase the unit price of alcohol to 50p per unit. In this melee, the top 5 supermarkets have been voicing their concerns, as well.
Meanwhile, on the canal banks, on park benches and in the doss houses across the land, numbers, far superior to all of them, are not asked their opinions and remain stoically, incoherent.
It's enough to drive a man to drink, it really is..
