Darwen councillor backs citizen's election bid

DARRENER David Horsfield’s bid to become a town councillor at the next election is being backed by Sudell councillor Paul Browne.

As reported in the Lancashire Telegraph, Mr Horsfield plans to stand as an independent at next year’s election after getting annoyed at councillors’ reactions to his regular questions at the council’s monthly meetings.

And Coun Paul Browne wished Mr Horsfield good luck in his efforts.

He said: “I believe he is right in what he is saying. This council is going more and more political.

“It is not like the first council we had for those first two years.

“That was nowhere near as politicial as the one we have now.

“The Labour group is cracking the Labour whip and I bet the next mayor will be a Labour one as they are being told what to do by a higher authority. I hope people in Darwen will come and stand at the next election.”

The reason they dont want it political is that they lost control. They were glad to see it political when Martin McCaughran croosed the floor during the last administration. They walked out en bloc during one meeting and voted en bloc against a bespoke heritage centre. For a non-political group they certainly like to put their point across politically in their newsletters. Then again, I expect the non-elected David Foster pulls the strings.

So what are UKIP policies for Councils ?

They have just 1.
- cut back by much more than the ConDems.

Thank you ste.g for wanting to crucify our town.

did i mention anything about expenses? - my issue is that the person concerned actively campaigned against DTC and said it was a complete waste of money and should never happen - subsequently, since his party has held the majority on DTC - he sees no need to get rid of the council as he and his party has £100k of Darwener council tax to play with. Gets the whole town to but him (and his pals) a train set

Unfortunately, much of this money is being used to plug the gaps left by cutbacks in services caused by the removal of funding by Central Government
