Burnley car fans call for second Paul Walker tribute event
10:00pm Friday 27th December 2013 in News
CAR fans have taken to social media to ask a Burnley man to organise a second car rally, after his first event was a roaring success.
Andy Lockey organised the tribute evening earlier this month at the Trafford Centre in memory of Hollywood actor Paul Walker who died in a car crash at the end of November.
The 40-year-old actor was well known for his role in The Fast And The Furious film franchise and was a favourite of car fans across the world.
Thousands of avid modified car fans from across the north west descended on the shopping centre, just outside Manchester, to honour their idol.
Mr Lockey said: “The evening was amazing, about 2,000 people turned up with another 1,000, according to police, who couldn't get there due to them having to close roads.”
Fellow organiser Rikki Jones said that the evening had raised £431.93 for Help for Heroes.
He said: “Would like to stay a huge thank you to everyone who attended, supplied, donated and bought H4H or Paul Walker merchandise.”
Andy initially said that he didn’t intend to organise another event.
But car fans have since taken to Facebook to ask Andy and Rikki to organise another meet.
Liam Gaskell said: “The event was my first car meet and it was a fantastic evening. I look forward to the next!”
And Tom Judge said: “It was well good, needs to happen again!”
Rikki has responded to the calls on Facebook, and said he is now considering putting on another — even bigger — event in the summer.
