BURNLEY is buzzing on the back of the Clarets’ blistering start to the season, leading figures in the town have said.

The club is sitting proudly atop the Championship table, hot on the heels of the town being named as the most enterprising in the UK.

And the individual accolades poured in for manager Sean Dyche and star striker Danny Ings yesterday.

Dyche was named Championship manager of the month for September, while Ings received his first call-up to the England under-21 international squad.

With the Turf Moor faithful dreaming of promotion back to the Premier League, council leader Julie Cooper said the on-field success had given the rest of the town a boost. She said: “We’re on a high generally in Burnley following the enterprise award and the fortunes of the club and the town are definitely closely connected.

“There can’t be a club in the country that has such a core support in its town. I’ve been watching Burnley since I was six and I still get so emotional when the team takes to the pitch.

“The club means so much to a lot of people, including me. There is a real feel-good factor rubbing off on everyone. It’s been a great start to the season.”

Club sponsor and TV star Dave Fishwick said customers at his Keirby Walk office had been delighted with the positive start.

He said: “There is certainly a feel-good at the minute and it’s fantastic for the whole town.

“The more people we have going to watch the team, the more encouragement there is for people to use the pubs, cafes and restaurants.

“It would be nice to go back up and that would increase revenue in the town because we would get visits from supporters of all the big clubs.”

Paul Fletcher, former Burnley striker and UCFB College of Football Business managing director, said: “I was in the ticket office this morning and you can see that people have a spring in their step.

“When the football club is doing well you can always notice it in the town as a whole.”

Andrew Brown, managing director of Crow Wood Leisure, said: “I think whether you’re a believer in the beautiful game or not, it’s good for the profile of the town to have the team punching above their weight.

“People seem genuinely very excited at the moment.”
