A CHARITY which helps people communicate has been boosted by sharp-shooting business leaders.

Barrowford-based Denwa Communications hosted a clay shooting day to raise cash for Speakeasy, which helps people overcome communication problems after a stroke or head injury.

The event, which took place at Kelbrook Shooting School, saw bosses and staff from more than 30 companies take aim at clay targets.

Instructors opened the day with a brief tuition and a practice round for all the marksmen before the real competition began.

“It was a fantastic day,” said Rob Scott, managing director at Denwa.

“Some had a better aim than others but it was great to see local businesses coming together and raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Hotshot Justin Birchall, managing director of Birchall Food Services, scored a flawless 25 out of 25.Michael Haigh, Chris Guerin and Alex Mendoros also impressed with 19 out of 25 clays to force a shoot-out for the runners-up spot, with Michael eventually coming out on top.

Guests were then put into teams for a rapid-fire flush, which involved hitting multiple targets.

The day’s winners took home cash prizes, which were donated by ACDC, Stonehouse Logic, PLTV News and Denwa. Since January, the firm has helped to raise more than £4,000 for Speakeasy through fundraising initiatives, including a charity five-a-side football tournament and a 1920s theme night.

Denwa chose the charity for the year after Rob decided to help them after hearing a talk.

He also gave them a reconditioned server free of charge.
