AN 'unsophisticated' shoplifter who tried to push a trolley load of food out of Marks and Spencer was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
Burnley magistrates heard how hard-up Kathleen Green, 54, of Harcourt Street, had had no money for food.
She had been turned away from a charitable organisation and when her friend suggested they pinch the food, she agreed.
Green, who also has rent arrears, admitted theft to the value of £38, on September 14.
The defendant, who is on benefits, must also pay a £15 victim surcharge.
