A TOP composer is to meet with a Hyndburn band to discuss new commemorative music.
Dr Peter Meechan will visit the East Lancashire Concert Band to talk about a project to mark the band’s involvement with World War One.
On September 27, 1914, the band led a parade in Accrington to signal the mayor’s recruitment initiative reaching battalion strength. And new music will be performed 100 years to the day at a special concert at the town hall.
Dr Meechan holds the post of musical associate with the prestigious Fodens Band and composer in residence at the Band of the Coldstream Guards. He will meet with the band at the Civic Arts Centre, in Oswaldtwistle, at 11am on Sunday.
Ian McGuinness said: “Our quest to raise the profile of the band has been successful. The ongoing challenge is to continue to attract more musicians to do justice to the unique opportunities opening up.”
