THESE glowing new hoodies are about to set the fashion world alight.

The flashy jumpers, designed by East Lancashire businessman Mark Elliott, and his team at U-Glo, are proving popular with youngsters, and are even attracting interest from major high street retailers.

The father-of-three said he was inspired to design a light-up garment after watching science fiction movie Tron.

He said: “The hoodies have come together quite quickly. As far as we know, we are the first creators in the UK of a light-up hoodie. There is nothing like it that I have seen. I searched and searched and I could not find light-up hoodies anywhere.

“We really believe there is a market for this kind of thing.

“It is more of a fashion range at the moment, with interest from BMX-ers and skateboarders, and the next step is to go into cycling gear.

“Not only do our products promote fun and fashion, we are bringing an element of safety to nightlife.”

The hoodies, which have removable power packs, are machine washable, and are available in a range of colours.

They have three light-up functions, constant, flash and super flash, and are powered by two AA batteries.

U-Glo is based in Lower Darwen and Mark, who lives in the Ewood area of Blackburn, said he was hoping to supply his product to independent shops, in addition to well-known retailers.

He said: “I am really excited about the future. We have had a really good response from the teenage age group, and so we are looking to extend the line.”
