CLARETS fans are in for a treat when an old favourite makes a return to Burnley’s covered market tomorrow.

Burnley Memorabilia, run by Clarets fanatic Peter Shirtcliffe, will re-open at unit 57 of the Curzon Street market hall after a two-and-a-half year absence.

Mr Shirtcliffe, 49, launched his business in Standish Street in 2006 and moved to the covered market before packing up in 2011.

But he has continued to sell some of his collection, which includes more than 3,000 pin badges, scarves, flags, photographs and programmes, outside Turf Moor on matchdays.

He said the team’s current run of form had created ‘a real buzz’ about the town and he hoped supporters would back the stall.

Mr Shirtcliffe, from Padiham, said: “I’ve missed it, to be honest. I get a lot of fans coming up to me asking when I’m going to open up again.

“Now I’ve agreed a better deal with the council on the market I look forward to welcoming those old customers back.

“I’ve got a great collection of old-style scarves and pin badges, some framed pictures and I’m waiting on some shirt stock to come in.

“There is a real buzz about the town and the club at the minute and I hope it can return to being the great stall it used to be.”

Mr Shirtcliffe, who has been a regular at Turf Moor since the age of seven, said he was looking to buy and sell items representing all clubs.

He has also enlisted the help of Clarets legend Andy Payton and his daughter Olivia to help with the stall’s re-launch.

Mr Shirtcliffe, who also works for Simonstone-based gardening firm Huntroyde Nurseries, said he planned to create a special Remembrance Day poppy badge next month.

He said: “I’m friendly with the lads in the Royal British Legion and I’m hoping to raise some money for them.

“Further down the line I’d like to donate some profits to the youth development section at the club.”
