A 24-YEAR-OLD man who went out for ‘an hour’ came home drunk eight hours later and assaulted his mum, dad and brother.

Blackburn magistrates heard Matthew George’s disgraceful behaviour was witnessed by his young daughter who was in his arms when he punched his mother.

George, of Cartmel Avenue, Fern Gore, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Anthony George, Barbara George and Wayne George. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work and pay £50 compensation to each of his victims and £145 costs.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said George had gone out for a pint with his twin brother at about 7pm saying they would be about one hour.

Their dad picked them up at 3.30am from Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club and told them their behaviour was unacceptable. He told them they should show more respect and the defendant should prioritise his daughter.

“At that point he became unreasonable and said they would never see their granddaughter again,” said Mrs White. “Back at the house he punched his father and then pushed him on to the settee and punched him again.”

His twin brother and Wayne intervened and dragged George away and while that was going on Wayne was bitten on the finger.

Mum was holding the baby when George took the child off her and punched her in the eye.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said strange as it may seem the incident had brought the family closer together.

“He has had honest discussions with his mum and dad having first apologised for his behaviour,” said Mr Taylor. “For the first time in a very long time they have sat down and talked and he and his father have planned to go out for a drink tonight. His brother Wayne has phoned him this morning and wished him good luck with the court case.”
