BEER and barges are both hoving into view for visitors to the centre of Burnley this autumn, tourism bosses have confirmed.

Plans have been drawn up for the second Burnley Beer Festival, backed by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) this September, in the wake of a successful 2012 outing.

And the town’s pioneering Canal Festival is also set for a second berth a week later, as previously revealed by the Lancashire Telegraph.

The East Lancashire CAMRA gathering, from September 5 to 7, will once again see Burnley Mechanics transformed into a ‘bierhalle’, with more than 90 real ales, selected ciders, perries, fruit beer, wine and soft drinks available.

Live music, specially-designed glasses and an array of food will be offered by organisers to keep up the festival spirit.

Coun John Harbour, the borough council’s leisure and culture executive member, said: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming CAMRA back for the second beer festival, which we hope will become an annual fixture on the Burnley events calendar.

“Last year we welcomed thousands of guests and had some really positive feedback, so we hope that many more get the date in their diary for what will be a great weekend.”

Tickets priced at £3 a day, and £1 for NUS and CAMRA members, will be sold on the day, with doors opening at noon and closing at 11pm.

The canal festival, featuring activities from Weavers Triangle to Barden Marina, will take place from September 13 to 15.
