A LANCASHIRE scheme to take the worry out of caring for a loved one has been commended at a national ceremony.

The Municipal Journal's Achievement Awards 2013 singled out the Peace of Mind for Carers service funded by Lancashire County Council and delivered in partnership with Carers Lancashire.

It ensures someone is ready to step in to help 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, if a carer is caught up in an unforeseen situation like a traffic jam, sudden illness or emergency admission to hospital.

The service was nominated for an award under the ‘Innovation in Social Care’ category, which received a record number of nominations this year.

It was one the few to receive a commendation from the judges.
