THE PAINTINGS stored at Towneley Hall have had a condition survey carried out on them by a team of conservators.

With paintings of the age in Towneley’s collection, it is essential to regularly check their condition and ensure that they are being maintained properly.

The survey is being carried out with funding from the Edward Stocks Massey bequest and is one of the ‘hidden’ areas of work that the public do not usually see.

During the visit, the team focused on a painting in the chapel, which had been affected by a bat colony. Work was carried out during the visit last week to restore this painting to its original condition.
