PUBLIC meetings have been set up as part of the next phase of Cuadrilla’s exploration of Lancashire’s shale gas supplies.

The company is currently drawing up planning applications for sites where it intends to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of gas.

Planning consultants Arup are also preparing an environmental risk assessment for each site, which will be used to identify any potential risks, The drop-in sessions will be held at Freckleton Sports and Social Club from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday July 23 and at Elswick village hall from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday July 24.

The company is also aiming to speak separately with residents about its plans for a new vertical exploration well, which would be used to provide new information about the quantity and composition of the natural gas within the rock.

Francis Egan, Cuadrilla’s chief executive, said: “We’re are keen to take on board the views of local people as we continue to assess the full potential of Lancashire’s Bowland shale.”
