A DRUNKEN man who went into a restaurant to use a pay phone ended up stealing a mobile while staff were using the house phone to call him a taxi.

Adam Mark Pilkington, 28, of Temple Drive, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing a Samsung Galaxy S4 belonging to Michael Joy. He was ordered to do 60 hours unpaid work and pay £145 costs.

Stephen Barker, defending, said while staff were calling a taxi, Pilkington saw the mobile on the counter and took it.

“It was a very foolish act while he was under the influence of drink,” said Mr Barker.
